“I want to be an author”- this was my answer to being asked the ever constant (the bane of my existence) question ‘what do you want to be when you grow up?’ Well not exactly. I wanted to be a librarian so I could read books all day long and learn enough vocabulary and stories to one day write one of my own. This plan failed miserably when I started my own creative writing journey- I could read all day but none of my stories deserved to see the light of day (trust me, I wanted to burn those papers but global warming ¯\(ツ)/¯).

As I grew up a lot changed; but two things remained the same: my unending yapping (as you can already tell) and horrible storytelling (I still read just not as much pls don’t come for me). Surprisingly, even after multiple failed blog attempts, a little part of me always wanted to write. Enter ‘Article Writing’. Apart from English exams, articles were the only kind of writing that I did even when not in the course. It became a productive way to spend some of my extra time and learn more about new topics. Little did I know that one such article would help me become a published writer.

Since my application for The 8:10 newsletter, I have written several articles- work that I’m quite proud of. Even though the 7 year old me didn’t get to publish her stories (and rightfully so), the 18 year old me knows that stories aren’t the only things that need to be told. Sometimes, even a written yap about how a girl started writing can be newsletter worthy.
