Reflection

When I glance at the looking-glass what do I see?
A reflection of myself who doesn’t know me.
Some days it feels hard to be me;
It all seems well, but then, it flees.
Inside, my heart’s always restless,
Who am I, a stranger, with me less and less.
One impulsive act is all it took;
The consequences, my whole world it shook.
Often I felt nothing at all;
The mistakes I made, big and small,
When I glance at the looking-glass what do I see?
The reflection of myself who hates me.
Coming round to a muzzy, narcotic haze,
Once again my life – a terrible mess.
Through this mess, discovering and accepting the true me,
And I know that has set me free.
Navigating this mess, I lost lovers and friends,
Found people who would never leave me till the end.
Most days I’m grateful that I’m still here,
Reminding me to live my life fully and without fear.
When I glance at the looking-glass what do I see?
The reflection of myself, trying to love me.
